SONG SYNOPSIS: A man refuses to leave a hotel room empty-handed. He asks the woman inside for money; she refuses; he shoots her and hides her body in the closet before slipping past the front desk unseen. Room four-eighteen becomes both his alibi and her grave, marked only by a neon sign glowing outside in the snow. Downstairs, he charms another woman with the same words he once whispered to his victim — not knowing she never truly left the room, and that she intends to make sure he never forgets what he did to her.
SONG INSPIRATION: Inspired by the story, “Room 418” by CBS Radio Mystery Theater from May 09, 1978, as heard in the Weird Darkness Retro Radio episode "Room 418" (

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Maggie Cross
brings a worn, weathered contralto to Weird Darkness Records — a Southern Gothic folk-blues voice built for telling stories from the shadows. Chicago-Delta blues pulled back into acoustic-forward murder balladry and dark Americana, all storytelling and grit exactly where it's needed. Brooding, unhurried, and haunted, hers is the voice of someone who has seen everything and isn't rattled by any of it.
"Can't Kill Me Twice" by Maggie Cross
[VERSE]
You asked me once to let you go,
I held the money, shook my head,
I never thought you'd strike that blow,
But here I lie in this closet, dead.
You wiped the gun, tossed me on the floor,
Slipped past the desk clerk, sight unseen.
Four-eighteen etched above the door,
The only witness, a neon gleem.
[CHORUS]
You can't kill me twice, no matter how you try.
I'm the chill in the room,
The voice in the gloom,
I'm the light in your eye.
You can burn my name with your heart of ice.
You can bury the gun,
Thinking you have won,
You can’t kill me twice.
You can’t kill me twice.
[VERSE]
I watch you charm the girl downstairs,
You tell her words you whispered to me,
She doesn't know the guilt you wear,
She doesn’t know the sin I see.
You’ve cut off my life, you ended my breath,
But you’ve not gotten rid of me yet.
You’ve created a ghost through my brutal death,
I’m a woman you’ll never forget.
[CHORUS]
You can't kill me twice, no matter how you try.
I'm the chill in the room,
The voice in the gloom,
I'm the light in your eye.
You can burn my name with your heart of ice.
You can bury the gun,
Thinking you have won,
You can’t kill me twice.
You can’t kill me twice.
[Saxophone solo]
[BRIDGE]
Every mirror, every locked-up door,
I'll be waiting there forevermore,
You can run, but you can't escape the dead,
I’ll haunt your conscience, heart and head.
The day, the night, awake or while in bed.
[CHORUS]
You can't kill me twice, no matter how you try.
I'm the chill in the room,
The voice in the gloom,
I'm the light in your eye.
You can burn my name with your heart of ice.
You can bury the gun,
Thinking you have won,
You can’t kill me twice.
You can’t kill me twice.
[OUTRO]
You can’t kill me…
You can’t kill me twice.
